And the man said, “Gold is where you find it,” and that applies equally well to, silver, coins, and jewelry artifacts/relics from the past. Many areas were settled during the growth of our expansive country, this is allowing for the hiding and subsequent loss of a multitude of valuable caches. However, in order to locate some of this hidden booty, we have to do our research and ultimately get out into the field and scan to find it.  I hope you will find your share and enjoy this hobby as I do.

To Be Successful:

You should LEARN your Metal Detector all you can! Besides reading the manual you really need to use it and PRACTICE with it as often as you can and TAKE YOUR TIME. Too many people are in a hurry, and this hobby is NOT a RACE! As you take your time you're learning how to interpret what your detector is telling you, hunting in a methodical manner and digging, even those marginal signals that you knows might be the older targets. And yes you will find "Junk" but even those things teach you more as you remember what your detector told you, and you will continue getting better at those interpret signals. And through that you will be SUCCESSFUL!

IMG_0006a.JPG (305639 bytes) This is a picture of me using my digger to find the signal that my detector told me that a penny was below. However I found one 1981 Memorial Cent in the ground (about 2 inch) and 1 1975 Roosevelt Dime just to the left on top of the ground. So it does pay to look all around. Almost missied it as it was very dirty and black (smile). And hey, coins may not be really "old" but when detecting all work for me with a smile, though very old good coins may a bring bigger SMILE.

My wife Lynda had just started new detecting and finding herself enjoying being out with me. In this picture Lynda is finding and digging to practice in my test field so that she can learn how using her own (my old detector). As I have said you have to learn what your detector is telling you! I had set up this small field by checking and clearing all metals and then seeded it with some various coins and other items at different depth for testing and learning. Remember to use practice as often as you can and in the end you will be finding more interesting items!
